The HEPA Europe Conference 2027 will focus on one of the greatest challenges in health-enhancing physical activity: moving from evidence to effective implementation. While the benefits of regular physical activity, reducing sedentary behaviour and improving physical fitness are well established, and HEPA policies are increasingly embedded in public-sector agendas, important challenges remain in translating research into practice and disseminating successful interventions beyond research settings.
Under the theme “HEPA Horizons. Training Your Health Through Physical Activity: The Essentials for Efficient Implementation”, the conference will explore practical implementation frameworks that support the delivery of effective HEPA actions across different settings and populations. It will emphasise the importance of strengthening collaboration between research, policy and practice, while fostering the exchange of knowledge and implementation experiences across sectors and countries.
By bringing together the perspectives of Planetary Health and individual empowerment, the conference will advocate for coordinated action that connects international evidence with local implementation. Through collaboration, innovation and shared learning, HEPA Europe 2027 aims to contribute to more effective, equitable and sustainable physical activity promotion across Europe.
The venue
The Conference will be host in Lleida (Catalonia, Spain) at the Lleida Conference Centre “La Llotja”, located on the right side of the river Segre, close to La Mitjana park.
The organiser
The National Institute of Physical Education of Catalonia (INEFC) is a public academic institution under the Government of Catalonia. It operates three campuses (Lleida, Barcelona and Pyrenees) and is a leading higher-education centre in the fields of physical activity and sports. The INEFC Lleida campus offers BSc, MSc, PhD and lifelong learning programmes under the academic coordination of the University of Lleida (UdL). INEFC Lleida faculty also lectures in the MSc in Physical Activity and Health offered by INEFC Barcelona under the coordination of the University of Barcelona (UB).
INEFC has been a member of HEPA Europe since 2011, contributing to international, national and regional initiatives aligned with the network’s mission and objectives. It actively participates in joint working groups that promote health-in-all-policies and cross-sectorial strategies led by the Municipality of Lleida, the Ministry of Sports of Catalonia, the Catalan Public Health Agency, the Spanish Professional Association of Physical Activity and Sport, the Spanish Sports Faculty Deans Conference, the College of Physicians, among others.
INEFC’s research groups cover a wide range of domains related to physical activity including (but not limited to): exercise physiology, exercise prescription, promotion of physical activity in protected natural areas, grass-root sports organisation, sports injuries, worksite HEPA promotion, gender-oriented perspectives in physical activity and sport.
